AARAMBHIKA OVERVIEW

Be it folk music, film music, or any other genre we listen to—each is deeply rooted in classical music. To sing effortlessly and with precision, a strong foundation in classical music is essential. Without this knowledge, mastering any form of singing becomes challenging. Classical music serves as the very foundation of all musical expressions.

The entire world of music is based on just seven Swars: Sa, Re, Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha, Ni—there are no additional Swars beyond these. Expanding on this, there are a total of 12 Swars, including Shudh and Komal/Tivra (flat/sharp) Swars. Understanding the variations and tonal movements of these Swars makes it significantly easier to sing any composition. However, without learning classical music, this mastery remains impossible.

This course is designed to help students develop a solid command over musical notes and rhythm, laying the groundwork for further musical education and artistic growth.

CURRICULUM

AARAMBHIKA – Your First Step into the World of Music

Music is a beautiful blend of two fundamental elements:

Swar (Melody) – The essence of every tone.
Laya (Rhythm) – The heartbeat of every composition.

In Aarambhika, you will embark on a structured journey where both Swar and Laya will be explained in depth. This course is divided into three progressive levels, each unlocking a new dimension of musical mastery.

  SHADAJ – The Foundation of Melody & Rhythm

This is where your musical journey begins!

In the first phase, students will learn the 7 pure (Shudh) and 5 altered (Komal/Tivra) Swars, making a total of 12 Swars. Various patterns of Swars, known as Alankar, will be taught to enhance accuracy and vocal agility.

Additionally, a strong foundation in Taal (rhythm) is essential for singing. This section covers the 10 fundamental types of rhythm, along with essential techniques to develop rhythmic strength. Understanding both Swar and Taal is crucial for mastering any form of singing.

    PANCHAM – Unlocking Your Vocal Potential

Now that you’ve built a strong foundation, it’s time to refine your voice and technique!

Expand your vocal range with 3-octave singing exercises.
Master breathing control for power and stamina.
Practice intricate Paltas to improve flexibility and clarity.
Deep dive into the 10 Thaats – the building blocks of Raagas.
Playback singing tips & techniques for those dreaming of the big stage.
Alankar practice in different Thaats to develop a trained ear.
Essential music theory to understand the art behind the sound.

  NISHAD – Exploring the Soul of Indian Music

Welcome to the world of Raagas & compositions!

Learn iconic Raagas like Yaman, Bilawal,  Bhairav, khamaj, and kafi .
Practice Raaga Sargam & Lakshana Geet to understand the essence of melody.
Sing Bandish & Tarana, essential classical traditional compositions.
Explore semi-classical & modern adaptations – bhajans, ghazals, and famous songs based on these Raagas.

TIME DURATION

Although this is a one-year comprehensive course, we understand that learning needs vary. That’s why we offer flexible options to suit your pace. Additionally, upon successful completion of one year, you will receive a certificate from a recognized university, validating your progress and expertise in Hindustani Classical Music.

3 Months – A foundational introduction to the course.
6 Months – A deeper exploration with enhanced practice.

Guru-Shishya Parampara – A Timeless Tradition of Learning

Overview

The Guru holds a supreme position in indian culture. Indian classical music has a deep tradition of passing on knowledge from Guru to disciple with dedication.

In ancient times, learning music was not easy. Students (Shishyas) lived with their Gurus for 5-10 years, serving them while learning the unique style of their Guru’s Gharana (musical lineage). This tradition ensured that music was not just taught but experienced as a way of life.

Today, staying at a Guru’s house for years is no longer practical. However, Swar Sanskar has carefully designed this course to preserve the essence of the Guru-Shishya tradition.

Through this course, students will learn directly from their Guru, gaining deep insights into the Gharana’s techniques, Bandish (compositions), and classical music traditions—all while staying connected to the wisdom of this age-old learning system

CURRICULUM

.Guru-Shishya Parampara – Intermediate Level

Prerequisite: This course is for students who have successfully completed all three levels of Aarambhika (Beginner Level) at Swar Sanskar.

At the Intermediate level, students will take their musical knowledge to the next stage with a deeper exploration of classical music.

Understanding the 10 Thaats & Raagang Concepts – Exploring the structure and significance of Raagas.
Mastering Key Raagas – Learn Raag Kalyan, Bilawal, Khamaj, Kaafi, Asawari, Poorvi, Marwa, Bhairav, Bhairavi, and Todi in detail.
Swar Vistar & Swar Malika – Expanding vocal range and developing melodic fluency.
Gharanedar Bandish – Learning traditional compositions unique to different Gharanas..
Vocal Techniques & Exercises – Improve voice quality with essential techniques like Alaap Vistaar, Gamak, and Taan in Aakar.
Taan & Speed Control – Learn how to sing fast-paced Taan in Swar with clarity and precision.
Taal System Mastery – Deepen your understanding of rhythm and beats in Indian classical music.
Filmi Songs & Raaga-Based Music – Discover how classical Raagas are used in Bollywood and commercial music.

Bhajan or Ghazal Singing – Experience the emotional depth of devotional and soulful music

This course will sharpen your musical skills, enhance your ability to improvise, and prepare you for advanced classical training.

Course Duration – Intermediate Level

The Intermediate Level of the Guru-Shishya Parampara course is a 4-year structured program, with the syllabus provided here covering only the first year. As students progress through the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th years, they will explore new Raagas, advanced vocal techniques, and deeper aspects of classical music, After completing the four-year Intermediate course, students will be promoted to our Guru Shishya parampara’s Advanced Level, a 2-year intensive program that further deepens their expertise through specialized training. after completing the entire 6-year journey, students will be awarded the prestigious Sangeet Prabhakar certification. Additionally, at the end of each year, they will receive a certificate from a recognized university, validating their growth and achievements in Indian classical music.

Guru-Shishya Parampara – Advanced Level

This course is designed for students who wish to deeply immerse themselves in Indian classical music or pursue it as a professional career.

At the Advanced Level, students will develop stage performance skills, artistic expression, and audience engagement techniques. This course focuses on refining the unique vocal and improvisational abilities required for a successful classical music career.

What You Will Learn:

Mastering Stage Presence & Performance – Understanding the art of a live performance, stage confidence, and audience engagement.
Developing an Artist’s Mindset – Learning the skills an artist cultivates over a lifetime, including the nuances of professional performance.
Raga Studies in Depth – Advanced training in Raagas like Bihag, Malkauns, Bhoopali, Jaunpuri, Alhaiyya Bilawal, Shuddh Kalyan, Miyan Malhar, Ahir Bhairav, Puriya, Durga, and Sarang.
Gharanedar Bandish Training – Exploring Vilambit and Drut Bandish, Chaturang, Tirwat, and Tarana.
Thumri & Semi-Classical Styles – Learning the art and science of Thumri performance in Raga Sohini, including structure and grammar.
Raaga Vistaar & Bandish Development – Mastering the technique of expanding a Raaga (Raaga Vistaar) and composing a Bandish effectively.
Advanced Aalap & Taan Techniques – Training in Bol Aalap, Boltans, and the distinctive styles of the Gwalior and Agra Gharanas.
Classic & Rare Ragas – Learning compositions in Hansdhwani, Basant, Mukhari, and other traditional raagas.

This course ensures that students not only master technical skills but also develop the depth, creativity, and artistry required to become a true classical performer.

The Guru-Shishya Parampara course is designed as a comprehensive 6-year program, covering both Intermediate(4 years) and Advanced levels (2 years). However, there is flexibility for students based on their prior knowledge and expertise.

➡️ For Beginners & Intermediate Learners:
Students who start from the Aarambhika (Foundation) and progress through the Intermediate level will complete the full 6-year training to master classical music.

➡️ For Experienced Students:
If a student already possesses the knowledge covered in Aarambhika and the Intermediate level, they have the option to directly enroll in the Advanced level, which is a 2-year intensive program focused on higher-level musical mastery.

Certification & Future Opportunities

Upon completing the full 6-year program, students will receive the prestigious Sangeet Prabhakar certification. . Additionally, at the end of each year, they will receive a certificate from a recognized university

This degree not only validates their expertise in Indian classical music but also makes them eligible to apply for teaching positions in institutions, and school or colleges as well as other music-related career opportunities.
