Welcome to Swar Sanskar
Welcome to Swar Sanskar — where tradition meets technology, and music finds its soul.
Rooted in the rich heritage of the guru-shishya parampara, Swar Sanskar is more than just an online music school, it is a cultural movement to preserve, nurture, and elevate the timeless legacy of Indian classical music. At a time when digital convenience often replaces depth, we bring back the sanctity of learning, with sincerity, discipline, and spiritual connection.
Our vision is to build a vibrant, global community of artists and learners who are bound by the values of humility, excellence, and devotion to their craft. Through both online and offline platforms, we recreate the sacred bond between guru and shishya, making this age-old tradition accessible to students around the world. Our school is not just a place to learn; it is a place to belong.
Whether you are a beginner taking your first swar, or an advanced learner seeking deeper mastery, Swar Sanskar offers structured learning through personalised guidance, curated workshops, interactive mehfils, and performance opportunities that span continents. Our qualified students are given global platforms to perform, and we empower them further by creating meaningful employment opportunities within and beyond the school.
Our mission goes beyond teaching, we are here to preserve the sanskars of music. By connecting different gharanas and musical lineages across India and the world, we honour diversity within classical traditions while embracing contemporary styles with authenticity and grace. Advanced students are also encouraged to teach and mentor newcomers, creating a living, breathing cycle of knowledge that keeps growing.
At Swar Sanskar, every note carries a lineage, every lesson is a legacy.

FOUNDER’S STORY: SHRI SANJAY DEVLE — A GURU WHO CHOSE HIS ROOTS OVER RECOGNITION
In the heart of Gwalior, the birthplace of India’s most ancient musical tradition, was born a child whose destiny was already strung to the tanpura. That child grew up to be Shri Sanjay Devle, a torchbearer of the legendary Gwalior Gharana. Raised in an environment where every conversation carried a swar, every moment echoed with taal, and every lesson was a blessing, Shri Devle’s life has been nothing short of a musical pilgrimage.
Guided by the finest stalwarts of Hindustani classical music — Mahesh Dutt Pandey Ji, Madhav Aafle Ji, and his revered mentor Sudhakar Devle Ji — Shri Devle didn’t just learn music; he inherited it. With a soulful voice and a heart deeply committed to the guru-shishya tradition, he began teaching students over 40 years ago. From humble verandahs to private baithaks, his classes became sanctuaries of discipline, devotion, and riyaaz. Despite multiple offers to teach in prestigious institutions outside Gwalior, with better pay and larger platforms, Shri Devle chose to stay rooted.
Why?
Because he believed Gwalior needed its own guru.
“If we all leave in search of opportunity, who will guide the ones left behind?” he would often
say.
But everything changed in 2020. When the COVID-19 pandemic silenced physical classrooms and paused all live gatherings, it posed a deep challenge to the traditional mode of teaching. Yet, for a true guru, obstacles are only another taal to master. Refusing to let the sacred bond between guru and shishya break, Shri Devle took an unprecedented step — he went online. Every morning at 8 AM — without fail — Shri Devle began conducting live music classes on Facebook, later expanding to YouTube. No filters, no edits — just pure, traditional music taught with the same depth and sincerity as his offline sessions. He became one of the first classical music gurus in India to bring the age-old pedagogy of Gharana-style training to the digital world, inspiring countless others to follow suit.
But it didn’t stop there.
He initiated Live Riyaaz sessions — daily, open to all, where 100–150 learners from around the globe would join in disciplined musical practice. He curated Live Mehfils, where over 100 performances took place featuring not just students, but national and international artists from music, literature, and the performing arts. These weren’t just events; they were a lifeline for many during the isolated days of the pandemic.
What started as a Facebook initiative soon evolved into Swar Sanskar, an online gurukul now managed by Shri Devle, his son Mr. Yash Devle, and a dedicated team of senior disciples. Together, they are shaping a digital-age renaissance of Indian classical music, without ever compromising the values that define it.
Today, Swar Sanskar stands as a living testament to one man’s choice – to stay rooted, to adapt without diluting, and to honour the music that flows through generations.
Shri Sanjay Devle didn’t just start a school.
He safeguarded a parampara and gifted it to the world.
OUR FAMILY
At Swar Sanskar, we don’t just create musicians — we nurture a family bound by shared swaras, sacred values, and the soul of the guru-shishya parampara. Over the decades, what began as a quiet journey in a modest home in Gwalior has now blossomed into a thriving community of artists, educators, and performers across India. Each of them carries forward not just the knowledge imparted by Shri Sanjay Devle, but also the humility, discipline, and emotional depth that defines this gurukul.
Our 30 proud alumni are not merely students, they are the living echoes of this tradition. They are vocalists, instrumentalists, composers, and cultural torchbearers, representing the spirit of Swar Sanskar in cities, towns, and villages across the country. Wherever they perform, teach, or simply share a song, they carry the voice of their guru and the blessings of their musical lineage.
This section is a heartfelt tribute to them, our extended family, who continue to keep the raag alive in its truest form, and who remind us every day that while music may begin in notes, it lives on in relationships.
Here are their stories.
